[edit] Discussion

This memorial is composed of 2,711 free-standing pillars of stone, each measuring 95 x 237.5 centimeters with heights varying from zero to 400 cm. Although set in an ordered grid 95 cm apart, the variations in height together with the undulating ground on the 5-acre parcel produce unusual and unsettling visual effects.

  • 2007 Recipient, Honor Awards for Architecture, American Institute of Architects.
  • Client: Stiftung Denkmal für die emordeten Juden Europas
